Olga Cosmidou
Director General of DG Interpretation and Conferences at the European Parliament
She has been Director General of DG Interpretation and Conferences at the European Parliament since its creation on 1 January 2008. She was Director of the same service for 13 years (1994 to 2007) and before that Head of the Greek Interpretation Unit (1980 to 1994), a unit that she created for the accession of Greece to the European Communities. Having previously been a lecturer at the University of Corfu (Interpretation / translation, from 1978 to 1980), she has always been sensitive to the relationship between universities and interpretation services. As a result, she was co-founder of the EMCI (European Masters in Conference Interpreting). She was also co-founder of HINTS (network of Heads of Interpretation services of International Organizations as well as National Entities).
Her previous professional activities were: translator for the Greek Railways, freelance translator and interpreter, language teacher, translator and presenter of the news in French on Greek radio and television. She has studied Greek and French Literature at the University of Athens, has studied law (Athens), interpretation (University of Geneva) and Masters Studies in International Relations (ULB). She has lectured and written articles relating to interpretation, multilingualism and languages within the European Union.
There will be a special pre-conference session on interpreting in EU and e-learning projects supported by EU at LG Convetional Hall of Ewha Womans University International Educational Building on Friday 17th October 2014 (11 a.m.-12 p.m.). This event is open to public.
